Ching Meng

...or Qing Ming or Cheng Beng, also commonly known as All Souls’ Day.

For the Chinese, it is a day to remember and honor one's ancestor's at grave sites. Young and old pray before the ancestors, sweep the tombs and offer food, tea, wine, chopsticks, (joss) paper accessories, and/or libation to the ancestors.

Since my papa left us on 2000, we never miss this special day. Although none of us REALLY believe, we never failed to bring food (human-food) and bought paper money/replicas of shirts, shoes, etc. Deep inside, we hope he can enjoy his favourite food, and have new shirts for every occasions! The moment we light up the jossticks, we just want to believe that he is there. I always call this a "moment of denial". We just want to believe that he is eating the food, trying on the shirts and shoes...and this year...well, relaxing in his new OSIM Massage chair! Hehehe!

Hmm...wonder if I need to go with In Laws for Ching Meng this year? Arrgh...I hope I don't need to....can't imagine having to hike up hills under the scorching sun.... :(
